This is a very hilly and challenging “Double Gapper” route incorporating both Wicklow Gap and Sally Gap passes.
You initially avoid the busy R755 by going south to Tomriland and then on quiet roads via Drummin after crossing the R755 at Annamoe.
The classic climb up Wicklow Gap (476m) from Laragh / Glendalough is following by a rewarding descent and then a section on a small country road to take you to Blessington Reservoir and a pleasant lakeside section through Ballyknocken and Lacken.
A short detour to Blessington is possible as the route continues by the lake to then starts the climb up to Sally Gap.
Care is needed on the speedy descent sections from there back to Roundwood but the views of Lough Tay (The “Guinness” Lake) are worth the effort.
