Wicklow is home to the largest forestry area in Ireland. It is probably where Autumn colours can be best experienced when from October to December, the ‘fifty shades of green’ turn to Brown, red, yellow and gold! See below a selection of locations where those Colours can best be experienced:
Beyond the Trees – Avondale
The boardwalk at Beyond the Trees in Avondale will take you through the tree canopy. Climb up the viewing point and experience Autumn Colours from above.

Glendalough Valley
Walk the Trails along the Glendalough Valley from Larragh to the Monastic Site and up to the Upper Lakes. See there the many colours reflecting on the Upper Lakes. Walk up The Spinc to the viewing point some 200 metres up for stunning views.

Glen of the Downs Nature Reserves
Daily commuters get a glimpse of the native woodlands at the Glen of the Downs. The nature reserve offers a network of trails that climbs up the East side of the glacier valley. The various paths climb up to the ‘Octagon’ ruins with views over the whole Glen! The nearby Glenview Hotel offers stunning views of the valley.

Tomnafinnoge Woods
The Tomnafinnoge native woodlands between Tinahely and Shillelagh is also a great location for a family Autumn walk. On your way down, stop in Tinahely for a bit of lunch, and make sure to get a drink at the unique Dying Cow Pub just a 1km up from the entrance of the forest. Make it an overnight stay and visit the the home of the Shillelagh Stick, Rathgall ringfort, the Chocolate Garden of Ireland or Rathwood.

The Valley from Laragh to Avoca
Follow the Avonmore river downstream from Laragh along the Clara Vale to Rathdrum. Continue on to reach the Meetings of the Waters and on to Avoca and Woodenbridge.

Kilmacurragh, Mount Usher
Located within 15 minutes of each other, both Mount Usher Gardens and The Botanic Gardens at Kilmacurragh are open to the public every day of the week. Wonder through the paths and see the many trees and flowers getting ready for winter.
