This route heads north from Rathdrum along some quiet roads alongside the Clarabeg forest before turning westwards at Garryduff crossroads.
The upper Claravale valley road then takes you to the outskirts of Laragh where facilities and a detour to Glendalough are options. From Laragh you take the R755 for a short section before heading uphill towards Glenmalure.
At the top of this steady and scenic climb you pass the memorial to Shay Elliott. Elliott was the first Irishman to wear the Tour De France’s Yellow Jersey. A speedy descent to Glenmalure follows where care is needed as the road narrows and crosses a very narrow bridge.
After passing the Glenmalure Lodge hotel the route follows the Avonbeg valley to Greenan and Balinaclash before a relatively short climb to the finish in Rathdrum with an option to take in Avondale Forest Park close to the end of the route.
