‘The Passport was a unique way of keeping a memory of all the places I have been.’
Meet Akshay, a student from India living in Dublin, who recently became our latest Wicklow Ambassador. Akshay spent the summer months exploring and collecting 15 Wicklow Passport stamps from a variety of locations across the County. We recently spoke with Akshay to learn more about his adventure, insights, and advice for future Ambassadors!
How did you first hear about the Wicklow Passport?
It was my first year in Ireland and I wanted to explore.
I searched for things to do and the VisitWicklow website popped up. I found the Wicklow Passport initiative and thought I would give it a try.
What motivated you to take on the challenge?
I was fascinated by Wicklow’s beauty.
The Passport was a unique way of keeping a memory of all the places I have been.
I was thrilled knowing that there is a reward for completing the journey through Wicklow!
Can you share your favourite memory from your Wicklow
Passport experience?
Wicklow Town and the Glen Beach Cliff Walk were absolutely stunning.
Another really unique experience for me was the Treetop Walk in Rathdrum.
The cherry on top was the Spinc Trail in Glendalough!
What advice would you give to others who are interested in participating in a similar adventure?
Plan your journey!
You can visit 2 or 3 places and engage in activities by planning well since the attractions are fairly close to each other.
If you had the chance to do your Wicklow Passport adventure all over again, what would you change?
I would definitely visit the same places again and keep adding stamps to my Passport!
What was your overall impression of the Wicklow Passport challenge?
Really fun! It’s an amazing initiative to encourage people to visit Wicklow.
The stamping locations were well laid out and the interactive map on the website was really handy!
