Wicklow is a melting pot for quality cuisine and this Autumn foodies can embark on several unique “Taste the Island” experiences, which showcase local food and drink.  Meet the makers of fabulous local fare, including growers, bakers, distillers and brewers, take on a food trail and forage for your supper.

Check out these unmissable Wicklow food experiences in the ‘Meet the Maker Wicklow’ Tour, available until the end of November.

Foraging for edibles at Killruddery House & Gardens, Bray, Co Wicklow.

The historical house and gardens of Killruddery, set in 850 acres of working farm and protected biodiversity, offer a stunning and unique location for a foraging expedition!  Fionnuala Ardee, one of the family members at Killruddery, explains the history of the house on a private tour through the Walled Garden, noting various herbs and vegetables, and foraging for seasonal fodder along the way.  The Head Chef will meet guests along the walking route to offer Killruddery Pork Sausage Roll eaten with freshly picked leaves.

Irish Berry Wine Tasting at Wicklow Way Wines, Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow.

Meet Brett Stephenson, the winemaker at Wicklow Way Wines, Ireland’s first fruit winery. Hear about berry winemaking in Ireland and the importance of environmental sustainability in production, followed by a visit to the tasting room overlooking the vats.

In the tasting room you’ll sample the three wines produced at the winery – Móinéir Irish Strawberry, Blackberry and Raspberry Wines, experiencing their unique aromas, flavours and colours. Taste Wicklow Whiskey at the Powerscourt Distillery, Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow
