The Tonelagee & Lough Ouler Hike is a beautiful hike in County Wicklow’s National Park. This scenic hike starts from the Glenmacnass Waterfall parking lot along the Old Military Road.
The trail will guide hikers to Lough Ouler, one of Wicklow’s most beautiful lakes. From there, you can proceed up to the peak of Tonelagee, which is the third-largest mountain in the Wicklow Mountains. Having climbed Tonelagee and enjoyed the panoramic views, the trail continues along the North-East of Tonelagee and eventually toward Glenmacnass Waterfall before concluding at the start point.
For navigational purposes, a map is recommended for those taking on the hike as path markings can be unclear.
Proper footwear and suitable, layered clothing is also recommended to best prepare for the muddy terrain and potential winds on the exposed peaks. Be sure to carry enough water as there are no facilities or rest stations on this challenging hike.
