Ballyteige Lodge is a place where history, nature, and hospitality converge. Whether you’re tackling the Wicklow Way or seeking a tranquil retreat, their doors are open to welcome you.
Originally built as a shooting lodge in 1890 for the prominent Dublin-based surgeon, John McArdle, Ballyteige Lodge has historically been a weekend retreat for entertaining significant figures from Irish political history (including John Redmond and Charles Stewart Parnell). Today the house is owned by descendant, Sean McArdle, who continues to uphold the legacy of Ballyteige Lodge.
Situated on an elevated site above the Ow River, Ballyteige Lodge is an oasis for those walking the Wicklow Way. Just a little over 1 kilometre beyond Iron Bridge and 300m off the trail, Ballyteige Lodge offers a peaceful respite for travelers and adventurers.
Guests are welcome to explore the 20 acres of gardens and grounds of Ballyteige Lodge which include the Himalayan Gardens over the River Ow. Traverse the river by suspension bridge and cross the beautiful Japanese bridge over the waterfall and discover the 100+ year old ‘Himalayan Gardens’ with towering Sequoias and Monkey Puzzle trees.
