Director: Mike Newell Starring: Gabriel Byrne, Ellen Barkin, David Kelly, Colm Meaney, Brendan Gleeson, Ciaran Fitzgerald and Ruaidhri Conroy. Plot: A beautiful white stallion, called Tir na nOg, appears mysteriously to a Traveller grandfather and his two grandsons in an Irish slum. The younger of the two boys is the only one who can control the horse so ownership falls to him and his older brother by default. As the boys have nowhere to keep the horse, they move him into the apartment of their alcoholic Traveller father. Police remove the horse and, in a shady deal, he ends up under control of a wealthy, underhanded horse breeder. The boys manage to retrieve him and escape on his back, but the stallion seems to have his own travelling agenda. Locations: Among the locations that were used for this film is Quinsboro Road in Bray. The Wicklow Mountains and Luggala Estate provided the backdrop for most of the cross-country scenes when Ossie and Tato go on the run. Turlough Hill, Powerscourt Waterfall and The Wicklow Gap all feature prominently. Some of the aerial scenes were shot in the Inchinappa area in Ashford. View Into the West in a larger map
