‘It took me to places I’d have no excuse to go to otherwise!’
Meet Cat, Wicklow’s latest Passport Ambassador. Cat moved to Wicklow in 2022 and has since collected 15 passport stamps from an assortment of destinations across the County. During a recent conversation, Cat shared her insights on her Passport journey and offered tips for those taking on the challenge!
How did you first hear about the Wicklow Passport?
I discovered the Passport on the Visit Wicklow website while looking for some inspiration for a day out!
What motivated you to take on the challenge?
My wife and I moved to Wicklow in 2022 and I was very keen to explore more of our new home county.
In fact, the Wicklow Passport was the first piece of post I got at our house!
What really clinched it though was the promise of a badge for finishing it. I can’t resist a badge.
Can you share your favourite memory from your Wicklow
Passport experience?
My favourite memory is walking through the woods around Rathdrum, getting very lost on the way to see the old railway viaduct, and capping it off with a Guinness at The Cartoon Inn!
What advice would you give to others who are interested in participating in a similar adventure?
Get a little poly pocket for your passport! I was a bit too casual with mine so it’s a little frayed and water-stained from being left on tables and stuffed into pockets.
If you had the chance to do your Wicklow Passport adventure all over again, what would you change?
I think that I would dedicate more time to each location.
There are definitely places I need to go back to!
What was your overall impression of the Wicklow Passport challenge?
This was a great way to explore the county.
It took me to places I’d have no excuse to go to otherwise.
It would be amazing if more counties did something similar.
