“Wicklow is my sanctuary”
Iwona jumped straight into the Visit Wicklow Passport Challenge, loving the experience of documenting her journey with stamps along the way. Read her interview below.
How did you first hear about the Wicklow Passport?
I first spotted the Wicklow Passport on social media, and it was instant kismet. County Wicklow has always held a piece of my heart, but the idea of ‘collecting’ my journeys there felt different. I’ve always been a keeper of memories, and there’s something deeply satisfying about a physical passport, a textured archive of mountain air, coastal breezes, and the quiet moments in between. It’s not just a booklet; it’s a map of my favourite places, waiting to be stamped into a permanent story.
What motivated you to take on the challenge?
I never needed a nudge to head for the hills; Wicklow has always been my compass. But the beauty of this place is its depth—no matter how many times I walk its trails, it always whispers a new secret or reveals a hidden view I’d somehow missed. I’ve taken on the Passport challenge not as a tourist, but as a regular, eager to finally see every page this county has to offer
Can you share your favourite memory from your Wicklow Passport experience?
Glendalough is my sanctuary; I’ve left countless footprints on its rugged trails, each hike adding a new layer to my history with the valley. Yet, Wicklow keeps finding ways to reinvent itself in my eyes. I recently rediscovered Wicklow Town, which caught me completely off guard—I went for the scenery but stayed for the incredible food and that eclectic, soulful atmosphere. My head is so full of these contrasting memories, from misty mountain peaks to vibrant town streets, that I can’t pick a favourite. Each one feels like a different world.
What was the most challenging part of your journey with the Wicklow Passport?
I love traveling, walking and hiking, and I can definitely say that the journey with the Wicklow Passport was not a challenge for me, but a great pleasure.
What advice would you give to others who are interested in participating in a similar adventure?
I believe that County Wicklow has so much to offer: beautiful views, historical sites, modern attractions, delicious food, and I think everyone will find something for themselves. It’s definitely worth taking part in this type of adventure, as it showcases Ireland’s beauty, its diversity, and the wonderful people you can meet along the way.
What was your overall impression of the Wicklow Passport challenge?
Great, I’ve been in love with County Wicklow for years
What is your next adventure?
There are still a few places in County Wicklow I’d like to visit or return to. Next weekend I’m going back to Glendalough (one of my favourite places). I plan to do the Wicklow Way in early spring, which is incredibly exciting.
