Övünç and Burcu were inspired by the Visit Wicklow Passport to take on the challenge of becoming Wicklow Ambassadors during their trip.
Read about their journey here:
“One day, we decided to visit Blessington for a hike up to Russborough House. During our visit, a shop assistant introduced us to the Wicklow Passport, sparking our interest in the challenge.
The idea of combining adventure with discovery was irresistible. We were excited about exploring County Wicklow’s stunning landscapes and immersing ourselves in local culture. It was also a great way to bond as a couple and make lasting memories.
One of our favourite moments was spotting a half rainbow arching over Glendalough. The serenity and beauty of the moment were unforgettable. We also loved the thrill of stamping our passport at various stops, which made each destination feel like an accomplishment.
Exploring the remote areas came with its challenges, especially when mobile signal was weak. But that only added to the adventure—we found ourselves guided by paper maps and the kindness of locals and other adventurers.
Plan ahead, but leave room for spontaneity. Wicklow has so much to offer, so take your time and embrace the unexpected moments. Also, pack comfortable shoes and dress in layers—Wicklow’s weather can be unpredictable!”
If you had the chance to do your Wicklow Passport adventure all over again, what would you change?
“We’d dedicate more time to each location. Some spots deserved more than a quick visit, and we’d love to linger longer and fully experience the local charm.”
What was your overall impression of the Wicklow Passport challenge?
“It was an incredible experience that deepened our appreciation for County Wicklow. The initiative was well-organized, and it felt rewarding to complete each part of the journey. It’s a brilliant way to encourage both locals and visitors to explore the area.”
What is your next adventure?
“We’re considering exploring the Wild Atlantic Way along Ireland’s west coast. The idea of another road trip full of breathtaking scenery and local discoveries is very appealing.”
