Shillelagh Outdoors is located on the Main Street of Shillelagh Village, approximately 60 miles southwest of Dublin city centre. Tucked away at the end of the Wicklow mountains, where the borders of Wicklow, Carlow and Wexford intertwine. The famous Wicklow Way walking trail runs by Shillelagh, while our shop is next door to the renowned Shillelagh Stick maker.
Shillelagh is set amidst the mighty Shillelagh Oak Forests and was constructed as the estate village for Coollattin Park, once the largest estate in County Wicklow. Shillelagh is located at the end of the old ‘Fitzwilliam Line’ a magical narrow gauge railway line which travelled from Woodenbridge to its terminus in Shillelagh from 1865 to 1944.
Our shop aims to support a wide range of artisan food producers and locally made arts & crafts and we are one of the retail outlets for the Wicklow Craft Trail.
We are also creating a local history & heritage centre which aims to capture times past and to promote the proposed Arklow to Shillelagh greenway ( www.wicklowgreenways.ie ).
Plus, to act as a local tourism information point and where walkers can have their Wicklow walking passport stamped ( www.visitwicklow.ie )
The shop is managed by myself Sandra Houlihan and my daughters Róisín and Sadhbh.
We open every Saturday from Easter up until Halloween, also on Fridays during June, July & August. We hold a Christmas market at the start of December and can also open by arrangement outside these times to help cater for visiting groups.
We would also be delighted if you dropped in for a chat with us!
