An Tairseach Organic Farm, Farm Shop & Ecology Centre

Nestled on the coast between the Irish Sea, Vartry River and the Wicklow Mountains is a very special farm, An Tairseach Organic Farm and Ecology Centre, where years of effort has allowed nature to flourish in all its glory.

Established by the Dominican Sisters in the mid 1990’s, this 70 acre farm in Wicklow Town has been at the forefront of the organic food movement acquiring organic status back in 2006. The accreditation was the culmination of several years of intensive work, clearing the soil of chemicals, restoring its fertility, improving hedgerows, laying out pathways and planting thousands of trees.

The farm now produces an abundance of organic vegetables as well as organic beef and pork. As well as the vegetables & animal grazing areas there is also a wildlife conservation area and a thriving woodland. People flock to the farm to lap up the natural beauty and tranquillity while shopping for an abundance of fresh organic foods. The Organic Farm Shop is a haven for the healthy, selling a vast array of beautiful fresh produce from home grown vegetables, fruit and meat as well as a wide range of other organic foods from local suppliers including whole foods and store cupboard ingredients. You can also pick up ecological toiletries and household cleaning supplies.

The garden is available to walk around if people are booked in for accommodation/retreats. Book a guided tour to view the organic garden and see for yourself how the vegetables are grown from seedlings in polytunnels for delivery to local markets. Watch the cattle and pigs graze and enjoy the beauty of this special place with a visit to the conservation site and woodland.

The Ecology Centre provides accommodation and venue services, offering conferencing facilities which can be rented by community groups and businesses. The conference room has full, top of the range, audio-visual facilities and a stage and podium for speakers. Throughout the year a number of courses and retreats are offered. These events focus on promoting ecological education, personal well-being and positive physical and mental health and healing. There are 15 ensuite bedrooms available for rent by individuals or groups for a quiet retreat or reflection time. We also have a cottage in the grounds which is available for short term stays.
