At the Meeting of the Waters, the Avonmore and beg rivers come together to form the Avoca River.
The ‘Meetings’ as the locals call it, is the place where the famous Irish Poet Thomas Moore penned his famous Irish Melody, “The Meeting of the Waters”.
The mining heritage is still very present along the Avoca Valley where ancient copper mines have left their mark on the surrounding hills. Follow the Avoca Valley to reach the scenic village of Avoca that was made famous by the TV Series ballykissangel in the 1990’s.
