‘It was very, very enjoyable and great to see more niche elements of the County..’
Richard, his wife, and their two kids recently became Wicklow Ambassadors after collecting 15 stamps across a range of destinations in Wicklow.
The family of four visited popular spots like Shillelagh and Rathdrum, while also enjoying local attractions such as Beyond the Trees Avondale and the Sugar Loaf!
We caught up with Richard to learn more about the family’s adventure through the Garden County!
How did you first hear about the Wicklow Passport?
We first learned of the Passport through social media.
We had also read about it on tourism websites.
What motivated you to take on the challenge?
I have moved out of the County but wanted to show my children where I came from and explore some of the attractions I had not visited.
Can you share your favourite memory from your Wicklow
Passport experience?
Our favourite memory was climbing the Sugarloaf.
We have now set it as an annual activity!
What advice would you give to others who are interested in participating in a similar adventure?
We recommend not planning too much.
We tried to fit too much in during a few trips and it took away from the overall experience.
If you had the chance to do your Wicklow Passport adventure all over again, what would you change?
We would love to visit more local amenities for stamps, like Fisher’s of Newtownmountkennedy!
What was your overall impression of the Wicklow Passport challenge?
It was very, very enjoyable and great to see more of the niche elements of the County, such as the Shillelagh Makers Shop or Beyond the Trees Avondale.
We have even taken the grandparents to some attractions!
