August Events:  Lisa Hannigan – The Emma Longford Trio – The 4 of Us – Paddy Casey – Colm O’Regan – Ceol Connected – The Quiet Tree

Lisa Hannigan Thursday 19th August at 3pm & 8pm.

  • Launching the Whale Theatre’s 2021 disPLAYced programme, Irish Musician Lisa Hannigan takes to the Whale Theatre stage.
  • Hannigan’s last record was ‘Live in Dublin’ made with experimental orchestral collective s t a r g a z e in Dublin’s National Concert Hall, and was released in May 2019. This live record followed Hannigan’s critically acclaimed third full-length studio album, ‘At Swim’ produced by Aaron Dessner.

The Emma Langford Trio – Friday 20th August at 8pm.

  • Sweet and sardonic in equal measures, Emma Langford is a songwriters’ songwriter. Creating work that fuses trad, folk, and jazz; her writing and performance are a celebration of this nation’s tradition of storytelling.
  • Never one to shy from hard work, Langford made the bold but rewarding move of releasing an album at the height of a pandemic – ‘Sowing Acorns’ landed in September 2020 and received huge international praise. Having bided her time long enough now, she can’t wait to share the album live on stage in 2021 before her beloved audience – heckling and singing along are welcomed, nay encouraged.

The 4 of Us – Saturday 21st August at 8pm

  • The Murphy brothers will be performing on the Whale Theatre stage on Saturday the 21st of August as part of the Whale’s newly launched disPLAYced 2021 programme.
  • The 4 Of Us shot to early fame towards the end of 1989 with their debut Songs for the Tempted, which featured the massive hits Mary and Drag My Bad Name Down. The follow up Man Alive made Q magazine’s prestigious Top 50 Albums of 1992 and included the UK Top 30 song She Hits Me.

Paddy Casey – Friday 27th August at 8pm

  • Celebrating the success of his fifth album, The Secret Life Of, Paddy Casey has come a long way from a childhood love of music that would bring him to tears…Having gotten his first guitar at the age of 12, it was clear long before that fateful day that young Dubliner Paddy Casey had soul.
  • Now with five albums to his credit – including this year’s The Secret Life Of – Casey has established himself as one of Ireland’s more interesting singer/songwriters. And catching him live in an intimate venue is pretty much where the man shines brightest.

Colm O’Regan – Saturday 28th August at 3pm & 8pm

  • Best-selling and critically acclaimed broadcaster, author comedian and, for recently RTE Comic Relief Quizmaster Colm O’Regan is raring to get back onto the stage after lockdown.
  • As a stand-up comedian, he has performed all over the world. His stand-up has also featured on RTÉ’s Late Late Show and on Comedy Central.

Ceol Connected – The Quiet Tree – Sunday 29th August at 12pm & 3pm

  • The creatures of Whistleberry Forest have discovered a little oak tree growing deep in the woods. However, there are no birds singing, no leaves rustling, and no animals scurrying around its trunk.
  • Presented by Ceol Connected, this delightful show is packed with mesmerising music and singalong songs. Children and their adults are invited on an adventure through the forest where they will explore musical soundscapes, sing, dance, and help Ornaith the owl, Sorley the snail, and Faolán the frog bring the little oak tree to life through music.
  • Performed by Ceol Connected’s Thomas Johnston (whistles and song) and Samantha Harvey (keys). Suitable for children ages 2-6 and their adults.
