I couldn’t imagine a better way to start off an adventure like this.
Patrick and Lacie visited Wicklow for a portion of their honeymoon in June 2023, collecting 16 stamps for their Wicklow Passport in the process. We spoke with the couple and learned everything we could about their experience!
How did you first hear about the Wicklow Passport?
My wife and I were planning our honeymoon and were looking at specific places to stay where we could cover local areas and the first area we looked at was south of Dublin. I did an internet search for things to do locally around the Kilkea Castle area and one of the links that popped up was the Wicklow Ambassador site. We looked it over and thought it would be fun to spend a couple days traveling around the countryside visiting locations that we really had not considered, originally.
What was your best experience with the Passport?
We actually came across quite a few locations we really loved. We loved Powerscourt Falls, the tour of Russborough House was great and the coffee at Hug A Mug was delicious. Butler & Barry in Bray, and Bray in general, was probably one of the best experiences. We had a fantastic view in the restaurant and had a wonderful dinner, then we walked on the beach. Afterwards, we drove up to Bray Head and hiked to the top for a spectacular sunset view where the cross is located.
Could you tell us about your story with the Wicklow Passport?
After arriving in Ireland.. we really knew nothing about Wicklow County. The first place we stopped was The Old Rectory in Donard. The diversity of the landscape, rolling hills, and just green everywhere!
Often, we would get to a stamp location and spend a little time there. Climbing Bray Head, visiting Powerscourt Falls, buying up fresh bread and cheeses at the Aughrim Country Market, finding castles or other historic buildings!
The last stop was in Dunlavin at Tynte House. There are so many neat little towns with their own personalities to see along the way. I couldn’t imagine a better way to start off an adventure like this.
