Please read our interview with Sophie:
Where are you from and how did you hear about the Wicklow Passport?
I have lived in Wicklow all my life but I just heard about the passport a couple of months ago when my friend sent me an ad for the passport from social media. We started collecting stamps together and were excited when we found out how many stamps have been all around us that we didn’t even know about.
How many stamps did you collect and how long did it take to collect them?
I started collecting stamps in December 2024 and I have collected 17 different stamps so far (and a couple of duplicates) but my stamp collecting journey is only just beginning! I am looking forward to having lots of excuses for some day trips during the summer.
What were your favourite locations and experiences in Wicklow?
My favourite thing about the passport is getting to try new local businesses such as Rise at the Cove that have been there for years but I had never got around to trying. One of my favourite places to visit was Wicklow Town as a lady who works in the Wicklow Gift Shop recommend I go up to The Black Castle as they were filming a movie so I had a lovely walk in the sunshine around the beautiful coastline and it felt like I was in a different country!
What was your overall experience of the Wicklow Passport?
I have really enjoyed the Wicklow Passport as I walked the French Camino last summer and it has been really nice to have a similar stamp collecting activity in Ireland. It has also been a great conversation starter as I have had lots of nice chats with the staff in each location who have shared their Camino and Wicklow Passport experiences or have recommend me other places to try while I am in an area. Overall, it has been a really positive experience and I look forward to doing more exploring in Wicklow.
