An Capall

Published by Media on 4 December 2024
An Capall (meaning Horse in Irish language) is a beautifully converted Horse Lorry currently out to grass overlooking a meandering river, nestled near Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains. Our Wooden Bedford Horse Lorry has been lovingly converted to house a King Size bed deck plus single bunk. Guests have private access to our river beach, firepit & BBQ. In addition you can book a private Finnish Sauna & River Plunge experience in our River Hot Box, converted horse box (at an extra charge).

The space

You are welcome to come and stay in our luxurious haven of peace and tranquility to escape from the stresses of life and bathe in the natural beauty of the Glenmacnass Valley. Set elevated above the Glenmacnass River the view from An Capall is truly sensational. Our Vintage Wooden Bedford Horse Lorry has been lovingly converted into guest accommodation with one King Sized Bed (with Emma Mattress) and a Single Bunk below.
It is the perfect base to explore Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains National Park with many local Hikes including The Wicklow Way, Spinc, Scarr, Tonnelgee and the stunning Heart Shaped Lake Lough Ouler. There are restaurants, pubs & coffee shops nearby in the village of Laragh.

The restoration of An Capall has been a dedicated labour of love. We have
made a unique, quirky and unusual space for you to enjoy with original and vintage furnishings creating a warm, cosy and inviting place to stay. There is a woodburning stove with hot plate and oven to cook on plus an electric two ring cooker with a small oven/grill on the days its too hot to light the stove. The shower room provides a full sized shower and toilet all internal to the Horse Lorry so no midnight dashes across the field necessary.

Guest access

Our Horse Lorry is located approximately 4km from Laragh Village so a car is essential for getting around and visiting the many wonderful tourist attractions locally. We live further along the driveway past the Lorry and will generally be on hand to advise or help in any way during your stay.

Other things to note

You will have the entire Horse Lorry plus a dedicated outdoor space to yourselves during your stay. The Horse Lorry is elevated over the Glenmacnass River and you have access to the River Beach for picnics or toe paddling should you wish. There is an outside Gas BBQ a Fire Pit Area and outside dining table and chairs all positioned perfectly to watch the sunset over the Wicklow Mountains while enjoying your favourite drink. We also have a Finnish Sauna (Converted Horse Trailer) parked by the River, this the River Hot Box is available on request to guests at an additional charge of €30 per session.
Towels and bedlinen are supplied as well as tea and coffee, cooking equipment and crockery.

Mobile phone coverage is not available at our location, this is a price we pay for our rural idyll. Wifi is available but speeds are slow and reliability is not guaranteed.
