The Old Rectory Garden and Studio was originally the Rectory to the parishes of Dunganstown, Redcross and Conary before it transferred to private ownership in the 1950’s.
GARDEN: Joanna Sloan and her family have restored and regenerated the walled garden and courtyard buildings to meet the needs of today’s family life without taking from its cultural and historical past.
It is a ‘Garden of Life’ boasting a working kitchen garden,, a long herbaceous border of perennials, an orchard of fruit trees, bees and hens, a woodland walk and a parkland walk amid ancient beech, rhododendrons and acers set against a commanding view towards Lugnaquilla.
Joanna gardens by organic standards and promotes as much biodiversity in her garden alongside creating exciting plant, shrub and tree combinations for year-round interest. It is a combination of design and function for humans, fauna and flora.
TEXTILE PRINTING: From the Old Rectory Studio Joanna runs screen-printing workshop and sells hand printed textiles inspired by her garden and nature. All of her inks are water based onto Ulster Weave Linen and organic cotton. Her printed textile collection includes cushions, tableware, scarves and children’s night wear.
