Strip and Dip Wicklow Saturday 9th June – 2,505 took part to beat Guinness World Record of 786
2,505 ladies took part and absolutely smashed the record held by Perth Australia. Certified by Guiness Book of World Records. While Perth has a sea and air temperature of 22 degrees, the Irish sea was a hell of a lot colder averaging 12.8 degrees! And over €310,000 as of Wednesday 13th June, 2018. A huge achievement, and monies still pouring in!
This is the sixth Strip and Dip to be held in Wicklow. The Strip and Dip started five years ago after Deirdre Featherstone was undergoing treatment for breast cancer and had a brainwave after her mastectomy to do something fun – and raise money for childhood cancer! The event itself has grown from 80 women in Year 1, to 2,500 women in Year 6 – a huge achievement.
There are a lot of women undertaking this who have been through cancer and of course lots of people who have been affected by it. With laughter, scars, dodgy boobs, or in a lot of cases only one or none…..Dee would like to send a message that there is life after cancer and also raising awareness of how important it is for ladies to get checked. It has been a magical day for all involved and a closed format. So only ladies were allowed!
The event was held North or Brittas Bay at Maghermore Beach.
