The Board of Wicklow County Tourism officially launched #WakeUpInWicklow – their exciting new Tourism campaign – at Killruddery House & Gardens on Monday the 11th of July, with the support from Wicklow enthusiasts Minister for Health, Simon Harris, TD and Minister of State for Food, Forestry and Horticulture, Andrew Doyle, TD.
The #WakeUpInWicklow campaign will see a monetary investment across a strategic communications plan in traditional and online media charged with profiling Wicklow as the ultimate destination and converting tourists from day trips to overnight stays.
Commenting at the launch, Noel Keyes, Chairman of Wicklow Tourism said: “We are very pleased to activate our new tourism initiative which will showcase the complete county of Wicklow like never before. Tourism trends dictate that visitors are planning their trips by researching in advance online and on social media. We want them to experience Wicklow’s famous hospitality and engage with trade before they’ve even arrived.”
Minister Harris added: “This campaign is all about building relationships and I am encouraging everyone to get involved and support it. Wicklow is renowned for its magnificent outdoors, heritage and lifestyle. As Greystones resident and Minister for this area I anticipate that tourists will be charmed to #WakeUpInWicklow and experience all it has to offer.”
The new tourism campaign will also engage with local Wicklow residents, celebrities and businesses to share their stories, favourite spots and hidden gems using the hashtag #MyWicklow across social media to showcase the complete county.
Also present at the launch was Minister Doyle who commented: “I welcome the launch of this ambitious campaign. Tourism is very important for the county of Wicklow and encouraging more overnight stays can only be a good thing. As a local Wicklow resident living in Roundwood, I am looking forward to sharing my favourite local cafes, walks and destinations using #MyWicklow on social media and discovering more places from others.”
As part of the #WakeUpInWicklow campaign, four key themes will help capture and communicate all that Wicklow offers including:
- Ireland’s Ancient East will spotlight the vast heritage, history and places of interest across the county
- Wellness in Wicklow will showcase Spas and restoring activities as well as Producers of Food, Health and Beauty products
- Outdoor Wicklow will focus on activities including golf, cycling, walking and fun sporting activities
