Wicklow is also home to some amazing smaller gardens. All are of outstanding natural beauty and diversity and each one distinctive in terms of mood and theme.

Wicklow county touches the Irish sea on one side and boasts the Wicklow Mountain range on the other giving the surrounding topography, mountains and lakes truly spectacular views wherever you are. Whilst still being in close proximity of Dublin, Wicklow quickly takes you away into a world where you can really enjoy the great outdoors in peace and quiet.
Many of the coastal Wicklow gardens are home to wonderful microclimates in which delicate southern hemisphere plants flourish. Wicklow is also known for its rich acidic soil which allows otherwise difficult plants like magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons to thrive.
Whether you aspire to beautifully manicured flowerbeds and garden paths or you enjoy walks through wild woodland, there is a garden for everyone in Wicklow. Several of the Great Gardens even have large Estate settings with manor houses, well wooded demesnes, shops and cafés.
The smaller modern, contemporary gardens are maintained on a more modest scale but still hold as much charm and wonder as the larger ones, with some having beautiful ponds, lakes or rivers running through.
Many of the gardens in Wicklow are created and maintained by a gardener who is passionate about plants, trees and flowers. The gardeners are often there to greet visitors and talk about the floriculture of the grounds.
