South Wicklow Discoveries with Siobhan and Family!
Siobhan is back, and this time, she’s brought the whole family! Leaving Dublin early morning, we’ve created a great journey for her to discover some of the wonders around South Wicklow. Siobhan O’Connor is a journalist and broadcaster, and runs along with her partner TV Producer John Norton a very successful family travel blog: https://www.arewenearlythereyet.net/ .
See below their itinerary:
Day 1: Mount Usher Gardens, Avoca Mill and Tinahely Farm
Mount Ushers Garden
Mount Usher Gardens are one of the earliest and finest examples of a ‘Robinsonian’ garden. Find here a collection of trees and shrubs with inspirational floral planting schemes along both sides of the River Vartry. Mount Usher Gardens also has various exciting shops and cafe/restaurant run by Avoca.
Avoca Handweavers & Mill – Avoca Village
Dating from 1723, the handweaving mill in Avoca village is still in operation and continues to produce clothing for the Avoca brand. Meet here third generation weavers to show you what goes into the making of an Avoca throw. The visitor centre (admission free) tells the story of the mill from the beginning. Lovely Avoca food and shopping available here.
Tinahely Farm
The Children’s Activity Barn at Tinahely Farm offers a great range of family fun, including Go-Kart racing, Wicklow’s largest indoor beach, Giant Chess or Animal Walkway. Enjoy great food or shop the country store. This is a weatherproof destination for everyone to enjoy.
