Hollywood is our destination this week on a Stamping Journey through #Wicklow 👣
When you're ready to travel, pick up your FREE Wicklow Passport at any stamping location.
Hollywood is an interesting place to visit; it's thought that Hollywood in County Wicklow gave it’s name to the California Hollywood - locals have even erected a 'Hollywood' sign on the hillside which is a popular photo opportunity! In keeping with the movie connection, the village was the set for blockbusters such as “Dancing at Lughnasa!” with Meryl Streep, and “Michael Collins” with Liam Neeson and Julia Roberts.
Another fascinating site to visit is The Piper Stones, a Bronze Age circle of stones, about 3.5km to the south of Hollywood. Legend has it that an outlying stone and the circle relate to a piper and his dancers, petrified in stone for violating the Sabbath.
For the keen walker, there is an amazing trail which starts in Hollywood called 'St. Kevin's Way'. The 30 kilometres pilgrim path follows in St. Kevin's footsteps across the Wicklow Gap, and ends at remains of the monastery in Glendalough.
ℍ𝕠𝕝𝕝𝕪𝕨𝕠𝕠𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕤𝕤𝕡𝕠𝕣𝕥 & 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕝𝕠𝕔𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤:
Visit The Hollywood Inn, est. 1790, with cosy pub depicting links to America and California’s Hollywood. Dining is currently available in the beer garden or take away, and you can pick up your stamp here
The Hollywood Cafe will stamp your passport and you'll find it hard to resist the fresh, seasonal & local cuisine served in this traditional Irish cottage, originally opened as a Post Office in 1855. Outdoor space available too.
Staying overnight? The old Victorian farmhouse at Abhainn Ri is a special place for a very romantic getaway. Or for a golfing or relaxing break, Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort offers delicious food & deluxe guest rooms with stunning views across the Blessington Lakes & Wicklow Mountains. Both are stamping locations 🙂
Wicklow residents can make the most of the gorgeous Autumnal weather this weekend with a visit to the wide open spaces of Russborough.
While house visits are on hold for now, you can still get some fresh air and exercise on one of the many walking trails through the trees, or at the playground. Take away hot drinks and food are also available from Brambles cafe onsite.
