Autumn is here and what better county to experience the outdoors and the season’s rich colours then in the garden of Ireland, Wicklow. www.visitwicklow.ie has introduced a selection of activities making it easy to plan your retreat and #WakeUpInWicklow.

Wicklow is a fantastic destination during October’s Bank Holiday with plenty events to entertain yound and old.

For Families: The Halloween Train, Rathwood 15th – 31st October – Take a journey through the spooky forest on the Rathwood Express. Look out for Winnie the Witch and her spooky friends on this exciting adventure. With the help of some Good Witches each participating child will design and carve their very own Pumpkin to take home along with a delicious hot chocolate with yummy marshmallows! Earlier trains run from 11am – 3pm (suitable for babies to 5 years). From 3pm onwards it will be slightly spookier and suitable for those 5 years +.  Prices are €10 per child and €6 per adult.

For families: The Monster Mash, Hidden Valley Holiday Park, Rathdrum 28th – 31st October – On the October Bank Holiday weekend, Hidden Valley Holiday Park hosts the classic ‘Monster Mash’. Skeletons and goblins greet you at reception on your arrival to celebrate Halloween. This family fun weekend is full of excitement, costumes, treats and trick-or-treating. There is also a Best Costume Award for both adults and children and Haunted games and challenges.

For adults: Wicklow Gaol Night Tour for Adults 30th October at 8.30pm – Wicklow Gaol was, for many years, a place of horrendous atrocities where prisoners were subjected to torture, starvation and death. Experience these compelling stories of the 1700’s gaol with an evening tour by candlelight! Mingle with the ghosts, enter the solitude at your desire and board the transportation ship. Priced €15 (PP) and includes a glass of wine to ease the nerves!

Walking Festival: The Wicklow Walking Festival, Fri 28th – Mon 31st Oct. The Festival will be based in the Brockagh Resource Centre with many of the walks taking people through Wicklow Mountains National Park. All walks are led by experienced walking leaders who will enhance your day with information on local history flora and fauna.The National Park is an ideal location for a fun filled festival weekend covering approximately 90,000 hectares! The weekend offers a selection of walking choices which you can mix, match, or just choose one from challenging, moderate and easy! Walking gear is essential.
