KILTEGAN

Kiltegan is a pretty village and it won
Ireland's tidiest town previously. Humewood Castle in
Kiltegan is where the famous Wicklow rebel leader Michael
Dwyer surrendered to Mr. Hume, MP of County Wicklow in 1803.
It was agreed that he and his four lieutenants would be
pardoned and with their families be sent to America.
However, he was informed that he was being sent as a free
man to the penal colonies of Australia.
