Support from  Mildred Fox and Christian Hind

In January 2016, David Rooney began recording his debut album ‘Bound Together’. With Declan O’Rourke as co-producer he put together some of the finest musicians in the country. These included jazz drummer Conor Guilfoyle and bassist Baz Rycraft who along with Jay Wilson on piano, create a broad soundscape for Rooney’s songs to inhabit. Add in the sweetness and spice of Palestinian vocalist Ruba Shamshoum and you have a genre defying collection of songs that draw from folk, jazz, and country, all played with more than a little soul. A Kilmacanogue resident, David will be having his Co. Wicklow launch of the album at the Hotspot on March 18th. with the full recording band.

David is better known as a visual artist. As a contributor to The Irish Times and Hotpress, his editorial illustration work has reflected the tumultuous changes in Irish society. Recent work has focused mainly on cultural projects including the BBC series ‘The Story of Ireland’, Titanic Experience Belfast and the Stonehenge Visitor Centre.

‘1916 – Portraits and Lives’, was published by the Royal Irish Academy. The 42 original portraits, were exhibited in Kilmainham Gaol for 2016 and will soon move to the Pearse Museum in Rathfarnham. Prints from the exhibition will be on display at the concert.
