Ashford Country Fair 2018

Ashford Country Fair is back for the fifth year running in the beautiful grounds of the Bel Air Hotel, by kind permission of the Freeman family, on Bank Holiday Monday May 1st. The 2017 line-up promises to build on the success of previous years. It’s a wonderful day out for the whole family, with a wide range of food, fashion, activities and country skills to watch.

This year will feature two gun dog demonstrations, one working with Labradors, the other with spaniels. Come and see the experts at work. If you would like to bring along your family pet dog, then why not enter the ever-popular dog show, with a wide variety of classes to cater for all shapes, sizes, breeds and colours of dog. Entries will be taken from 11 am.

The highly entertaining duck herder will be back, with three separate demonstrations. Thus, everyone will have a chance to watch the dog skilfully herd these delightful and comical ducks as they waddle into a pen.

New this year will be a falconry display. Additionally, people can be photographed holding a bird of prey, so this promises to be a hugely popular event.

Once again, there will be a variety of farm animals (safely housed in pens), including a donkey, calf, sheep, lambs and hens.

The vintage tractors will be back, along with classic vintage cars. We may even see some motor bikes this year too.

A huge range of stalls will ensure that there is something of interest for everyone, from the Men’s Shed, to jewellery, crafts, wood turning, pottery, soaps, bric-a-brac, books, clothes, cakes, country produce and more besides. You can see spinners at work, changing sheep’s fleeces (and maybe even cat’s fur!) into spun yarn. The plant lovers will be happy with loads of beautiful shrubs, flowers and vegetable plants to purchase on the day. For those who like going home with a prize, why not have a turn at the tombola or buy raffle tickets – hamper, vouchers for meals, car service, tickets for Horse Show at RDS, scarf by Phyllis all to be won.

Children will be well catered for, with a fun corner including bouncy castle, bucking bronco, cactus shy, painting pottery. Popcorn and candy floss will keep the little ones happy. For adults and children alike, there will be a BBQ, serving both meat and vegetarian fare. Also, when you need a sit down, why not stroll to the tea tent and enjoy a nice cup of tea and homemade cake.
