Starting near Laragh, the Vartry Reservoir
Drive take you along the Upper and Lower Vartry Reservoirs
near Roundwood. An earthen dam was built over the Vartry
River between 1862 and 1868 to construct the Lower Reservoir
which holds 11.3 billion litres of water and goes to a depth
of 18.3 metres. The smaller Upper Reservoir was built later
in 1923, holding 5.6 billion litres of water. This drive
finishes at picturesce village of Roundwood, one of the
highest villages in Ireland 238 metres above sea level.

Laragh & Glendalough Laragh is known for its proximity to
the Monastic settlement of Glendalough, Sally Gap, the Glenmacnass
Waterfall, Wicklow Gap, and Glenmalure Valley.
Roundwood Roundwood is one of the highest
villages in Ireland. It has a close association with two former Presidents
of Ireland, Seán T. O'Kelly and Erskine Childers. Vartry
Reservoir Lakes are close by.
