Kippure Estate is opening Ireland’s first official Disc Golf Course.
We are extremely excited about Ireland’s first official disc golf course opening at Kippure Estate. This is a huge sport in America and is fast growing around the world with an international tour and close to 5,000 official courses. It’s definitely an honor to be the home of the only official course in the entire country,” said Kippure Estate Spokesperson Martin Dunn.
Disc golf is an immensely popular sport, similar to traditional golf. It can be played from school age to old age, making it one of the greatest lifetime fitness sports available. Because it is so easy to learn, no one is excluded. Rather than using clubs and golf balls, players use a flying disc commonly referred to as a Frisbee®. Like traditional golf, the object of the sport is to complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes. The sport was formalized in the 1970s and is overseen by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA).
“Ireland is the perfect country for disc golf. Its rolling pastures and scenic backdrops make for excellent gameplay. As an American in Ireland, I found it disheartening such a beautiful country had no course. Kippure Estate is the perfect location and we expect the course to do very well,” said Ken Jarvis from Disc Golf Ireland.
Kippure Estate, along with Jarvis, was instrumental in bringing Ireland its first official disc golf course. Using grant funds from the PDGA and additional money raised through sponsorships, the goal of an official disc golf course in Ireland was realised.
“2014 has been a great year for disc golf in Ireland. We started with the goal of bringing disc golf to Kippure Estate, and we achieved it. We want to especially thank Ken Jarvis for helping us construct the course, and for his shared passion for the sport. We’re hoping for a great turnout for the grand opening on March 7th,” said Kippure Estate Spokesperson, Martin Dunn.
